Environmental Committment

Pardee Homes is committed to environmental restoration and preservation projects within its San Diego communities, and in all of the communities it plans and builds. Pardee Homes has been building quality communities, homes and commercial and office space in San Diego County for more than 50 years. The company's environmental contributions are a testament to its determination to respect and preserve natural resources, habitat areas and wildlife corridors. Following are some of Pardee's recent environmental projects:

  • Pardee Homes has invested more than $2.5 million to support the restoration of numerous vernal pools in the Otay Mesa area. Vernal pools, seasonal wetlands that support plant and animal species, are considered valuable environmental resources.
  • Pardee unveiled San Diego's first "environmental" neighborhood, Santa Barbara, in its Pacific Highlands Ranch community in January, 2002. Santa Barbara was the launching pad for Pardee's LivingSmart™ program, which offers homebuyers options for conserving water and energy, improving air and water quality, and using environmentally friendly materials.
  • Pardee has dedicated thousands of acres of open space as an on-going part of its master-planned communities. In Sabre Springs alone, Pardee dedicated more than half of the 1,500-acre community as permanent open space.
  • At Pacific Highlands Ranch, Pardee is working with the support of the Sierra Club and other environmental groups to restore nearly 150 acres of previously farmed land to its natural state. Pardee is dedicating an additional 860 acres to permanent open space.
  • Pardee is creating a wildlife corridor in Carmel Valley to connect McGonigle and Gonzalez canyons, providing a vital link between two of San Diego's major canyon systems. The corridor will allow animals to move freely between habitat areas without crossing roads or traveling through culverts.

In addition to Pardee's commitment to preserving open space and natural habitats, Pardee also works to build its communities as certified California Green builder neighborhoods. This means that homes will offer significant improvements in energy efficiency, indoor air quality and comfort, on-site waste recycling and water and wood conservation. Already eight of Pardee Homes' neighborhoods in the San Diego region are certified California Green Builder neighborhoods.

Pardee is committed to the well-being of area residents and envisions Meadowood as an environmentally sensitive community with an emphasis on preserving open space and natural habitat. Meadowood homes will be built in accordance with Pardee's Living Smart™ program in order to offer homebuyers luxurious design with a host of earth-friendly features and options. The architectural design will complement the master plan's hiking trails and ecologically significant open space.

In addition, nearly half of Meadowood's 389.5 acres will remain as open space once the project is completed, including natural areas, groves of avocado and citrus, parks and trails.

Through these efforts, Pardee will bring its long-standing environmental commitment to bear on the Meadowood planning process, as the company has done in other communities throughout California.
